Shane is a member of the Seventh-day Adventist church and an ordained deacon. He attended an Adventist elementary school and graduated from 8th grade. Later, he attended one quarter at Andrews University but returned to Minnesota State University, Mankato due to financial difficulties. Then, in mid-life, he completed his masters degree with the University of Montemorelos.
